Scheduled for 10-11 September at The Hague, Netherlands, the Workshop on Financial Inclusion of Forcibly Displaced Persons will bring together policymakers, regulators, and other oversight officials. Representatives of academia and the private sector, including experts from financial technology startups, are also expected to attend.
The main objective of the Workshop is to enhance the ongoing policy dialogue about the financial inclusion of people who are forcibly displaced. It is estimated that 68.5 million people worldwide were forced to leave their homes in 2017 due to conflict or other disruptions beyond their control.
Workshop participants are expected to draw up a roadmap that will be presented to G20 Ministers and Governors in the future.

A two-day GPFI Forum on "Technological Trends in Digital Financial Inclusion" was hosted on a back-to-back basis with the second GPFI Plenary meeting, serving as an opportunity to broadcast the importance of technology as a booster of digital financial services. Featuring avant-garde topics around the theme of digitisation, the Forum enabled GPFI members and stakeholders to join in discussions on how these issues impact the financial inclusion agenda from a policy perspective.
On the first day, participants discussed how the blockchain technology can impact financial inclusion by lowering transactional costs, making transactions more transparent, and facilitating payments and remittances. Attendees also discussed how innovative regulatory approaches, such as sandboxes or so-called “RegLabs”, can open space for positive change through innovation.

The second G20 GPFI Plenary meeting under the Argentine G20 Presidency was held in Riyadh on 2 July 2018. Argentina formally presented the G20 Policy Guide, which was endorsed by GPFI members.

The GPFI Forum will be hosted on a back to back basis with the second GPFI Plenary meeting, serving as an opportunity to broadcast the importance of technology as a booster of digital financial services.
The purpose of the GPFI Forum is to highlight on avant-garde topics regarding digitisation for members and stakeholders to join in discussions on how these issues impact the financial inclusion agenda from a policy perspective. It would also be a space to hear country cases experiences. The two-day GPFI Forum will consist on time blocks covering different subjects that involve how the new technologies may influence on the development of financial inclusion.

The second GPFI Plenary Meeting under the Presidency of Argentina will take place on July 2, 2018 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As in the past, the Plenary Meeting will allow policymakers and implementing partners to take stock of progress to date and establish key milestones for the next period. More details, including the agenda and logistical information, will be announced once they are finalised.

The Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) held its first plenary meeting under the Argentine Presidency on 7 February 2018 in Buenos Aires. The day-long event enabled attendees to gain a better understanding of Argentina’s priorities and chart a path for the year ahead.
Organised around four sessions, the Plenary took a deep dive into Argentina’s main theme of digitisation and informality. It also enabled the various GPFI subgroups to update their terms of reference and finalise their work plans accordingly.
Topics covered during the sessions include ongoing efforts on remittances and the financial inclusion of forcibly displaced persons.
Delegates will meet again in the coming months at the next GPFI Plenary meeting.

Argentina hosted the first GPFI workshop of its G20 Presidency on 6 February 2018 in Buenos Aires. Participants came from governments and diverse entities working on financial inclusion around the world.

A key moment toward implementation of Argentina’s priority of digitisation and informality, the workshop was an opportunity to share country experiences and success stories in the area of inclusive finance.
Topics covered included digital identification, electronic payments infrastructure, alternative data sources for credit worthiness, as well as consumer protection and financial literacy.
