First GPFI Plenary Meeting - Side event summary, 26 March 2025

On 26 March 2025, on the occasion of the GPFI Plenary Meeting, took place also the side event entitled “Moving the needle – Advancing financial inclusion, from access to usage”. The aim of the event was to discuss about the need to move beyond access in financial inclusion to usage in Africa.
GPFI held its First Plenary under the South African Presidency

On 24-25 March 2025, the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) met in Pretoria, South Africa, for the first in-person Plenary Meeting under South Africa’s G20 Presidency. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the 2025 deliverables and in particular: (i) Moving from Access to Usage - Presidency Priority (ii) Implementation Framework of the G20 Action Plan on MSME Finance (iii) New and innovative technology and solutions for financial inclusion and for advancing the quality of inclusion for individuals and MSMEs

2024 GPFI MSME Finance Action Plan. The GPFI produced in 2024 a new G20 action plan on MSME financing, that expands the G20 GPFI SME Action Plan to take a more comprehensive view of the challenges hindering the ability of financial providers to serve MSMEs and how these challenges can be addressed.

G20 Policy Note on Financial Well-being

In 2024, the GPFI produced the 'G20 Policy Note on Financial Well-being' as a priority of the Brazilian Presidency. The note comprises a consensual concept of financial well-being, including a working definition, a preliminary conceptual framework, and a preliminary roadmap for a financial well-being measurement framework.
G20 Policy Options to Improve Last Mile Access and Quality of Inclusion

According to the FIAP, the GPFI developed in 2024 a note titled “G20 Policy Options to Improve Last Mile Access and Quality of Inclusion” that aims at identifying policy options for improving last mile access and quality inclusion for individuals and MSMEs through digital infrastructure, including Digital Public Infrastructure, consumer protection and other FIAP objectives.

On 26-27 September 2024, the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the third in-person Plenary Meeting under Brazil’s G20 Presidency. The aim of the meeting was to finalize the deliverables foreseen by the Partnership and in particular: (i) G20 Policy Note on Financial Well-being (Presidency Priority) (ii) G20 Policy Options to Improve Last Mile Access and Quality Inclusion through Digital Infrastructure, including Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), Consumer Protection and other FIAP Objectives (iii) New G20 GPFI Action Plan for MSME Financing
The second GPFI Plenary meeting under the Brazilian Presidency was held in Fortaleza

On 1-2 July 2024, the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) met in Fortaleza, Brazil, for the second in-person Plenary Meeting under Brazil’s G20 Presidency. The aim of the meeting was to discuss and advance the completion of the GPFI priorities for 2024. Specific sessions in the agenda were devoted to updates on remittances and open finance.
