Financial Inclusion Support Framework Launched

The Financial Inclusion Support Framework (FISF) was launched by the World Bank Group at the Financial Access for All event on April 21, 2013. The FISF launch was welcomed in the G20 Finance Ministers Communique of April 19, 2013, and is designed to support countries to achieve their commitments and targets as set out in the G20 Financial Inclusion Peer Learning Program and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion's Maya Declaration. The G20 Basic Set of Financial Inclusion Indicators was officially launched on April 21, 2013, during the 2013 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Endorsed by the G20 Leaders at their Los Cabos Summit in June 2012, the Basic Set provides a comprehensive framework for measuring the state of financial inclusion. The G20 Basic Set of Financial Inclusion Indicators was officially launched on April 21, 2013, during the 2013 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Endorsed by the G20 Leaders at their Los Cabos Summit in June 2012, the Basic Set provides a comprehensive framework for measuring the state of financial inclusion.

The Financial Stability Institute of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) hosted the first annual GPFI Conference on Standard-Setting Bodies and Financial Inclusion. Under the theme “Promoting Financial Inclusion Through Proportionate Standards and Guidance,” participants discussed the progress and challenges faced by the global standard-setting bodies (SSBs) in engaging on financial inclusion. The conference was held on October 29, 2012, and convened by the GPFI. The second annual GPFI Forum and first GPFI Plenary Meeting were held in Cape Town, South Africa, on September 28-29, 2012. Hosted by the National Treasury of South Africa, the GPFI Forum was attended by financial inclusion policy makers and regulators from across the globe, representatives of the G20 countries, and the GPFI’s Implementing Partners. The Forum was opened with the keynote speeches of Nhlanhla Nene, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of South Africa and Juan Manuel Valle, Head of the Banking, Securities and Savings Department at the Ministry of Finance, Mexico.
