On 6-7 March 2023 the GPFI met in Hyderabad for the Second Plenary Meeting under Indian G20 Presidency. Among other agenda items, discussions were held on the deliverable under the Presidency’s GPFI annual priority, “Leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure for Financial Inclusion and Productivity Gains” as well as on the new Financial Inclusion Action Plan (FIAP) (2023-26). The plenary agenda also focussed on other GPFI priorities: (i) Assessing Progress in the Implementation of the HLPs on DFI: (ii) New Deliverables on Digital Remittances; (iii) the Regulatory Toolkit; (iv) the Report on Digital and Innovative Products and Services for MSMEs; and (v) Data Harmonization.

On 4-6 March 2023, on the side-lines of the Second Plenary Meeting of the GPFI, the Indian G20 Presidency, with the support of Better Than Cash Alliance (BTCA), organised a “Knowledge and Experience Exchange Programme” on “Advancing Financial Inclusion through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the Emerging Economies of the Global South” in Hyderabad. The event brought together representatives from 17 countries and many regional organisations of the Global South. The programme saw a fruitful engagement with these countries by providing them a platform to exchange their development experiences in financial inclusion. Also, it gave valuable insights into their expectations and aspirations for the financial inclusion work being undertaken by the GPFI.

On 6 March 2023, preceding the Second Plenary Meeting of the GPFI, the Indian G20 Presidency organised an International Symposium on “Digital Innovations in Payments and Remittances”. A panel discussion on “Harnessing Digital Innovations in Payment Systems for Financial Inclusion, Resilience, Productivity Gains, and Inclusive Growth” was organised as part of the symposium. Representatives from international organisations, namely Better Than Cash Alliance, Smart Africa, Women’s World Banking, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Reserve Bank of India, participated in the Symposium.

On 10-11 January 2023 the GPFI met in Kolkata for the First GPFI Plenary under the G20 Indian Presidency. The focus of the meeting was to discuss and agree on priorities and work programme for the GPFI during 2023. The plenary agenda focussed upon the GPFI priorities for the current year, which are: (i) Leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure for Financial Inclusion and Productivity Gains; (ii) Completion of the ongoing G20 2020 Financial Inclusion Action Plan; (iii) Preparation and Adoption of the new G20 2023 Financial Inclusion Action Plan; and (iv) Update of GPFI Terms of Reference (ToR). On 9 January 2023, a day before the First GPFI Plenary Meeting, the G20 India Presidency organized an International Symposium on ‘Unlocking the Potentials of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Advancing Financial Inclusion and Productivity Gains’. Two highly fruitful panel discussions on the role of DPI and the significance of the digital financial ecosystem approach to leveraging DPI were organised as part of the symposium. On 9-10 January 2023, the G20 India Presidency organized an Exhibition on "Digital Innovations for Advancing Financial Inclusion". The Exhibition featured 12 stalls showcasing India’s digital prowess on the theme of Digital Public Infrastructure for financial inclusion. The Exhibition saw an impressive display of India's achievements and efforts in advancing digital financial inclusion and showcased financial system infrastructure, emerging technologies, digital identification process flows for individuals and digital innovations in financial inclusion. Under Indonesian G20 Presidency, the GPFI delivered the G20 Financial Inclusion Framework in Harnessing Digitalization to Increase Productivity, Sustainable and Inclusive Economy of Women, Youth and SMEs, the so-called “G20 Yogyakarta Financial Inclusion Framework”. The frameworks includes four Reports produced by GPFI implementing partners:

On 5 October 2022, the GPFI met in Bali in hybrid format for the third and last time under Indonesia G20 Presidency. During the meeting Implementing partners presented f the final version of the GPFI deliverables , which were endorsed by Member Countries. Building upon these outcomes, Indonesia G20 Presidency presented its “Financial Inclusion Framework in Harnessing Digitalisation to increase Productivity, Sustainable and Inclusive Economy of Women, Youth and MSMEs”, the so-called “G20 Yogyakarta Financial Inclusion Framework”. Time has also been devoted to the presentation of the 2021 Global Findex by the World Bank. Moreover, the incoming India G20 Presidency outlined the main features of the program they intend to pursue in 2023.
