Germany Hosts First GPFI Meetings of its G20 Presidency

The first GPFI meetings under the German G20 Presidency were held in Wiesbaden, Germany on 23-24 January 2017.

A one-day workshop advanced the preparation of the revision of the 2014 G20 Financial Inclusion Action Plan (FIAP) through analysis and discussion of related survey results and an exploration of cross-cutting and overarching issues, including the 2030 Agenda and wider G20 accountability processes.

The following day, the official GPFI meeting launched the work of the GPFI in 2017, in line with priorities of the German G20 presidency (GPFI German 2017 Priorities Paper), with a special emphasis placed on the financial inclusion of forcibly displaced persons, the implementation of the G20 High-level Principles for Digital Financial Inclusion, and SME Finance , i.e. to promote SME integration into sustainable global value chains.

Concrete steps were taken to finalize the GPFI Subgroup Work Plans for 2017. Along with Germany, China and Argentina are 2017 GPFI Co-Chairs.
